It consists of 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae and 5 sacral vertebrae, which fuse completely between 25 to 30 years of age. The total length of the vertebral column of an adult averages 28 inches.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">The vertebrae do not form a straight and rigid structure. If you look at the spine from the side (see Figure on page 61) you will see that it has several curves, namely (1) the cervical curve, (2) the thoracic curve, (3) the lumbar curve and (4) the sacral curve.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">The thoracic and sacral curves are called primary curves as they appear by the end of foetal development and are present in the newborn. They are also called &#8216;accommodation curves&#8217; as they accommodate the thoracic organs (lungs, heart and other related structures) and abdominal and pelvic organs (large intestines, small intestines, uterus, kidney, bladder, rectum etc). These organs are voluminous and they need space, so the spine in the thoracic and sacral regions curves out (convex) to accommodate these organs. In the case of the sacrum, the weight of the abdominal organs tends to push them downwards into the pelvic region where they need ample space to be accommodated.</div>

Genetically modified oranges compete with each other by containing more citric acid, the sharp taste often being mistakenly associated with vitamin C. That is why some orange juices, even the freshly squeezed ones, are so acid that they are &#8216;undrinkable&#8217;. Often they have to be gulped down with discomfort in the throat and teeth afterwards. The heartburn that may follow is often neglected because the orange-growing lobby says &#8216;orange juice prevents disease&#8217;. Old varieties of oranges, as found in developing countries, are not so acid, because they were not modified or tampered with (to make them seedless or have more citric acid to taste more sharp). About twenty years ago, eating an orange was pleasurable, as the pulp was not so acidic, but nowadays it is often impossible to enjoy it, unless one loves acidic foods. By juicing oranges, one removes the fibrous part of the fruit. These fibres, or pith, are alkaline and Nature&#8217;s own antidote to the very acid pulp (the principle being that bitter neutralises acid) and therefore, if one is very keen on oranges, one should only eat them and not juice them.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste">Satsumas, mandarins, and other sweeter varieties of the orange family, when eaten whole, do not produce the damage that orange juice does. Also, some pink varieties of grapefruit, which have that &#8216;bitter after-taste&#8217;, are well balanced and can be safely eaten. These are good fruits.</div>

One way of dealing with the anger is to use up the energy. If you can choose some really useful violent activity, like digging the garden, scrubbing floors, washing the paintwork, making bread, or jogging, then you&#8217;re making a conscious effort to channel this energy practically and tackling your problem in a most positive way.<br />

<p><span style="font-family:Courier New; font-size:10pt">     It certainly seems better to release your energy than to try to repress it. But even if you dig and scrub and bake like mad, there will still be times when your anger catches you out and you find yourself in the middle of a growing row. The old advice to count to ten before you say anything is precious little help at a time like this, but if you can remember to breathe in second gear you might find that this will give you the pause you need. And if you can then start relaxing those tense muscles in your face and fists you just might be able to stop the whole thing and get it under control. Breathing in second gear is doubly helpful when you&#8217;re in a temper, because as well as slowing you down and making you feel less angry it also gives you something else to concentrate on instead of whatever it is that&#8217;s making you furious. It won&#8217;t always work of course, because the pressure of your emotions at this time is so very strong. But it&#8217;s worth a try. If you do succeed, you&#8217;ll have every reason to feel very pleased with yourself.<br />

Although I&#8217;m sure they were all suffering from the aching miseries, I&#8217;m equally sure there were lots of other problems in their lives too. We are all too complicated, and so are our lives, for such a very simple solution.<br />

<p><span style="font-family:Courier New; font-size:10pt">     We ought to be glad that the subject is at least being aired. But over-simplification can be a nuisance and it&#8217;s one we ought all to guard against, because it can affect us all. If we&#8217;re not careful, pmt could become a sort of public scapegoat, so that any woman who is angry about anything could safely be ignored, dismissed or patronized. &#8216;Oh well, of course she can&#8217;t help it, poor thing. It&#8217;s that time of the month!&#8217; Nudge, nudge; wink, wink! We need to hold on to our knowledge that a lot of anger is both necessary and justified if we and our children are to survive in what is, for so many of us, a cut-throat world. The acid test is to ask ourselves what a man would have said and done in the same circumstances. If a man&#8217;s anger is justified, then so is a woman&#8217;s.<br />
